Mr. William Howard Cannon, age 77, of Cobbtown died Thursday afternoon, July 19 2018 at Oxley Park Health and Rehab after an extended illness. William was a native of Kannapolis N.C. living in Cobbtown the last 4 years. He was a retired foreman with Bechtel Company and Veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. He was a Mason and a member of Ocean View United Methodist Church in Oak Island N.C.
Mr. William is preceded in death by a stepson in 2016, Matthew Porter.
Mr. William is survived by his wife, Laverne Lockley Cannon of Cobbtown; one son, Mark Cannon of Salisbury N.C.; two stepsons, Jonathan Porter of Mt. Dora Fl. And Christopher Porter of New Ellenton S.C.; one sister, Pam Carter of Kannapolis N.C.; one grandson, Chase Cannon of Salisbury N.C.; and 6 step-grandchildren, Mars, Raiden, Peyton, Sawyer, Korbin and Konner Porter.
No services are scheduled at this time.
Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Vidalia Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

To Bill's Family...
I am so very sorry for your loss... Bill/I had known each other since childhood--- being a neighbor/attending elementary/high school together in Kannapolis, NC. My thoughts/prayers are surely w/you. God bless, and hold each of you close now, and always.

Go Little Wonders Bill is playing in the Final Game and it never ends. Played together with him four years and he was a great guy.

I've lost my best lifetime friend I ever had. We were so close at A. L. Brown high school and although he moved off we've kept in touch all these years. My heart hurts because of your passing but I know you were ready and didn't want to live in the physical condition you were in. I'll remember our hunting trips with my grandfather, you and I freezing in a tent at Uwharrie deer hunting and all the fishing we did. I'll never forget our playing sports in school and Lib and I picking you up for school in her Dad's old green Plymouth. A piece of my heart is gone but your memory will be there forever. I love you and I'll see you up there one day, old friend. I feel so glad I got to talk to you last week and you knew me and we said our final words. Your best friend, Jerry

I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. My love and Prayers to the family. God will give you his strong shoulder to lean on for he know's how you hurt. Bill was a great friend and even tho i had not seen him in years,I never forgot him. May God bless you all.
