Mr. Jimmy Couey, age 76, of Glenwood died late Tuesday night at Community Hospice of Vidalia after an extended illness. He was a native and a lifelong resident of Wheeler County.
Mr. Couey was a retired production manager with Oxford of Vidalia, he retired in 2003 with 35 years of service. He was a member of Stuckey Baptist Church for 58 years, where he served for 57 years as a deacon and 42 years as Treasurer.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Jean Couey of Glenwood; his son, Keith Couey (Suzanne) of Alamo; his daughter, Denise Cox (Hal) of Hazleurst; his God-Daughter, Asa Avery of Glenwood; his brother, Robert Harrell Couey Sr. of Perry Fl; two sisters, Elizabeth Rosalyn Clark of Pooler and Lynette Couey Adams of Dublin; five grandchildren, Caroline Horton (Josh), Maggie Couey, Anna Smith (Brandon), Rex Cox and Ben Couey; and four great-grandchildren, Sophie, Noah, Charlotte and Brooklyn.
Funeral Services for Mr. Jimmy Couey will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Stuckey Baptist Church with Reverend B.L. Horne and Perry Avery officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Vidalia Chapel Thursday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Vidalia Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

I read the news of Jimmy's passing just now with sadness and I send my sincere condolences to you and your family via this email message.
I will always remember Jimmy as one of the smartest people I ever worked with in this industry. He was always willing to help others and share his knowledge in any way possible. I thank God for the chance to have worked with him and to have had his friendship.

What a shock when I heard of Jimmy's passing. Jimmy and I were classmates and I am so very sorry to learn of his passing. He has always been a gentleman and fine Christian man. May God protect you and look over you in your time of grief.
