Mr. Billy Cheek, age 76, of Glenwood died early Monday morning December 29, 2014, at Meadows Regional Medical Center of Vidalia after an extended illness.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Glenwood. He was a retired logger and a veteran of the United States Army. Billy was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Glenwood.

Mr. Cheek is preceded in death by his daughters Sherry Cates and Casey Raulerson, and his parents Glenn and Mamie Cheek.

Billy is survived by his wife Mary Cheek of Glenwood; his daughter Pat Clark and husband Tommy of Alamo; his brother Ray Cheek and wife Barbara of Glenwood; seven grandchildren Alicia Hartley and husband Tim, Courtney Palma and husband Michael, Blake Clark and wife Samantha all of Glenwood, Clarissa Jenkins and husband Jamey of Metter, Whitney Griffin and husband Doug of Alamo, Caylin Cates and wife Lori, Beth Cates both of Jacksonville, FL.; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Billy Cheek will be held Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Friendship Baptist Church at 10 AM with Reverend Paul Thompson and Reverend Robbie Rosier officiating. Interment will follow in Clark Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM.

So sorry about Billy. He was very friendly and liked to talk and enjoyed his family. Praying for Mary and family for strength, comfort and peace now and in the days ahead. A note between Mary and myself was the "purple slaw" he made when he cooked while Mary and I fished. We had lots of memories together. Go rest high on that mountain Billy, your work on earth is done. Rest in God's arms. Hugs to the family.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your loved one. I know his brother, Ray & Barbara, from working at MWC. May God comfort you all at this difficult time. He is our always strength.
