Jere Howard Wells of the Longpond Community in Montgomery County, Georgia died May 16, 2014 at the Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.  He was born May 20, 1946, the son of Evia Dell Kea Wells and Julian Lamar Wells.  Jere was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Georgia.  Jere spent his early years on the farm with his family and attended the Montgomery-Wheeler Training Center in Mount Vernon, Georgia for a number of years.  He transferred to the Toombs County Center in Lyons, Georgia when he moved into the Robert Pitzer Men’s Group Home where he lived for many years.   In declining health, he had moved to the Camellia Health and Rehabilitation facility in Claxton, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Julian Lamar Wells, Jr.  Survivors include a sister, Annella Wells Duffes (Jim) of Griffin, Georgia and a brother Warren Kea Wells (Joyce) of Griffin, Georgia and Amelia Island, Florida.  Nieces are Melissa Wells Duffes of Seattle, Washington; Anne Duffes Weldon (Jeff) of Peachtree City, Georgia; Tamara Wells Carpenter (Rodney) of Smithfield, North Carolina; Marian Wells Hemmer (Eric) of Fairfax Station, Virginia; Anna Wells Gjerlow (Robert) of Chicago, Illinois; several great nieces and great nephews; and his long time loving care giver, Chinie Wooten of Uvalda, Georgia.

Memorial services for Mr. Jere Wells will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at 2 PM at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church with Reverend Don Kea and Reverend Arnold Raj officiating. A private family interment service will be held in Long Pond Cemetery preceding the service.

My sincere heartful condolences to the family and Ms Wooten. As a housepart for Robert Pitzer House I to will miss him dearly. Everytime I hear the name Christine, I will always think of him for that's the name he gave me. Love and prayers to all!

Ms Annellia, Mr Jim and Chinie,
I am truly sorry for your loss. I loved Jere and will miss him dearly. I will always remember how he would pull my cheek to him to give me a kiss and tell me how crazy for him I was. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Jere will remain in my heart forever. Always, Paulette
