Mrs. Loraine Kavakos Carter Robbins, age 95, died Friday, December 20, 2013.
Mrs. Robbins was a lifelong native of Toombs County. Born in Vidalia, where she spent her early years, she graduated from Lyons High School and lived her adult years in Lyons. She co-owned Carters Jewelry in Lyons before joining the staff at the Toombs County Tax Assessors Office, from which she retired in 1995. Mrs. Robbins joined Lyons First United Methodist Church in 1933 and served as a Sunday School teacher in the youth department there for 62 years. A former member of the choir and Methodist Women’s Council, she was honored with the church’s Heritage Award. A charter member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Mrs. Robbins was also an active volunteer with the American Red Cross blood mobile. She was preceded in death by her parents, William D. (Bill) and Annie Lee Gordon Kavakos; her first husband, Howell L. (Bud) Carter; husband Robert E. (Bob) Robbins; son, William A. (Bill) Carter; and brother, T.R. (Ted) Kavakos.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Donald L. (Don) and Peggy C. Carter, Winston-Salem, N.C.; daughter-in-law Bettye S. Carter, Jasper, Ga.; four grandchildren and spouses: Kathy Carter, Jasper, Ga.; Greg and Sharma Carter, Loyall, Ky.; Brian Carter, Winston-Salem, N.C.; and Kent and Wendy Carter, Durham, N.C.; four great-grandchildren: Emma, Hannah and Will Carter, Loyall, Ky., and Julia Carter, Durham, N.C.; sister-in-law Mary Ann Green Kavakos of Lyons; special nieces, Lorraine Timmons and Gloria Aaron; and step-sons and spouses: Vic Robbins, Tony and Carolyn Robbins and Noel and Jo Robbins, all of Warner Robins. Several other nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service will be held Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Lyons First United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in the Lyons City Cemetery, Rev. Owen Williams and Rev. Greg Carter officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 am until the hour of the service in the Charles Durst Sunday School Classroom in the Church. Pallbearers will be Greg Carter, Brian Carter, Kent Carter, Dwayne Aaron, Paul Kennedy and Billy Yarbrough.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lyons First United Methodist Church.
