Mr. James Edward Young, Sr., age 72 of 1171 Currie Road, Uvalda died Tuesday night, September 11, 2012 at his residence following a brief illness.
Mr. Young was a native of North Carolina and had lived in Uvalda since 1971. He was a welding inspector with Pullman Power Products for many years. He was also an onion broker at the State Famer’s Market for over 25 years. He was a member of the Uvalda Church of God where he was a Sunday School teacher and a lay speaker. Mr. Young started the Outreach Ministry at Toombs Nursing Home, the Toombs County jail and for several years had a Christian radio program on the Hazlehurst radio station.
Mr. Young is preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Ann Norton and his parents, Joseph E. and Allie Mae Whitman Young. Survivors include his wife, Patricia “Pat” Young of Uvalda; three sons, James “Jamie” Young, Jr. (Pamela Davis) of Dunn, NC, Charles Wayne Young of Lincolnton and Christopher Michael Young (Darlene Caraway) of Uvalda; a daughter, Lisa (Young) Grimm of Vidalia; a daughter-in-law, Kelly Young of Dunn, NC; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Josephine (Anthony) Gerald of Lugoff, SC and Blonnie Talbot of Hartsville, SC; eight brothers-in-law, including Tom Hamilton of Vidalia; his mother-in-law, Martha Duvall of Uvalda; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two special family friends, Juan Martinez and Nancille Wiggins Copeland also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. James Edward Young, Sr. will be held at 11 am Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Uvalda Church of God with Reverend Terry Reece, Reverend Irvin Poole and Reverend Bill Black officiating. Entombment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the family residence (1171 Currie Road, Uvalda) beginning at 10 am Thursday morning.
