Mrs. Jane Snyder Spence of Kennesaw, Georgia passed away peacefully on November 19, 2017 at the home of her daughter Terri Spence in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was tenderly cared for in her last days and enjoyed the company of her family and friends.

Jane was born on August 21, 1925 to Tom and Iva Snyder of Trinity, North Carolina. After graduating from Trinity High School in 1943, she worked for the US War Department in High Point, North Carolina and St. Petersburg, Florida, where she met her husband, Virgil C. Spence. They married on April 30, 1949, and moved to Marietta, Georgia. She worked with her husband’s business while they raised a family, and after her children were grown, she worked for the Georgia State Retirement System until her retirement. She and Virgil were among the earliest members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marietta.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, her sisters Mary Lou Snyder Sheets and Bobbie Snyder Richardson, and her brothers Thomas “Bill” Snyder and Joseph Snyder.

Jane is survived by her children and their families: Terri Spence, her husband Jerry Tidy, and son Cody Davis; Susan Spence; Tom Spence; John Spence and his wife Ursula. Other survivors include her sisters Lucille Snyder Deutsch, Ann Snyder O’Hara, Becky Snyder Sumner, and Sara Snyder Allen, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving visitors at Mays Ward-Dobbins Marietta Chapel on Tuesday, November 21 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on November 22 at 10:00 AM, to be followed by burial at Mars Hill Cemetery.

Jane’s family wishes to thank the staff of Centra Hospice in Lynchburg for the care and support she received from them at the end of her life.
