Mr. Elton N. Sikes, Jr. age 89, of Lyons Ga. died Monday, September 11, 2017 at Navicent Hospital in Macon after an accidental fall.  

Mr. Sikes was a native of Ohoopee, Toombs County Ga. living most of his life in Lyons Ga.  Mr. Sikes graduated from Lyons High School in 1946. He was a member of the 1945  State Championship Football Team. He served four years in the United States Navy during the Korean War and Vietnam War. His ship, the United States General W.A. Mann under Captain Walker was among the first to enter Pusan Harbor in South Korea to bring out all the gold and silver. He also made a 1951 world cruise on this ship.
After coming home from the War, he continued his education at the University of Georgia and Brewton Parker College.

Mr. Sikes met life’s challenges with a focus and determination to succeed . Most of his occupational life was spent as co-owner of Vidalia Monument Company and sole owner of Vidalia Memorial Service. After retiring from the Monument business he began another career of planting and managing long leaf pine trees.

Mr. Sikes is preceded in death by his parents; Arnold and Pearline Sikes.

Mr. Sikes is survived by his wife of 64 years, Johnie Wyll Sikes of Lyons; and his son Barry Sikes of Lyons.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Elton  N.  Sikes Jr.  will be held Thursday, September 14, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Lyons Chapel with  Reverend Trent Akins and Reverend Jimmy Dupree officiating. Interment will follow at Lyons City Cemetery with Military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

Johnie and Barry Sorry for the loss of your loved one. My daddy thought a lot of Jr. He did business with him in the monument business. Just ask the Lord to wrap His Loving Arms around you, and comfort you during this time. Just remember the many memories you have.
