Catha Sue Spell Sapp, age 70, died peacefully at home on August 11, 2016. Her final days were spent at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in the Toombs Central Community of Toombs County to the late Charles Jay Spell Jr. and Ruby Alfreda Cox Spell. Her childhood was spent on a farm enjoying her extended Spell family. She loved to quote her grandmother and say “anything worth doing is worth doing right.” She lived most of her adult life in Jonesboro, GA, except for three years in California, and returned to the Lyons area in 2007. Sue graduated from Lyons High School and received her Master degree from Georgia State University in Atlanta. She was last employed at the CDC in Atlanta as a researcher but retired to oversee the construction of her new home and devote her full time to Bible teaching. Sue loved the Lord and felt a calling to teach God’s word. She taught Sunday School and Precept Bible Study for 15 years at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, GA. Late in life she became interested in her family’s genealogy and spent many enjoyable hours researching her family’s past generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Jay Spell Jr. and Ruby Alfreda Cox Spell, a sister, Charlotte Jayne Spell Page, and a brother Charles Jay Spell III. She is survived by her husband Ronald V. Sapp; three sons, Ronald V. Sapp II and wife Natalie of McDonough, GA, Nathan Sapp, and Ryan Sapp and wife Tonia of Jackson, GA; and seven grandchildren, Jessica, Alec, Emily, Abigail, Olivia, Ryan Thomas, and Ezekiel.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at the First Baptist Church in Lyons, GA, with Reverend Irvin Pearre of Jonesboro First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until the hour of service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Lyons.
Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Lyons Chapel is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Rest forever in peace Sue! May God's loving arms surround each family member and friend with the peace and comfort that passes all understanding. As you recall all the sweet and wonderful memories of times spent with her, surely this will lift you through and above the grief that is so profound now and in the days, weeks and years ahead. She and I had some wonderful times over the past few years at Era's with us sharing our family ties, working to put the pieces of the puzzles together and just enjoying being together. She was a loving person and will be missed greatly.

To Ronald & Family,
I was very saddened to hear of Sue's passing. She was a close friend in our class of 1963 at LHS. We both loved science and Sue excelled in Biology. I am in awe of her research accomplishments. Sue had a heart of gold and cared for people immensely. She loved God and had great faith. She will be greatly missed.

My heart is truly broken. I cleaned Sue's Jonesboro house for years and we became friends and could confide in each other and offer advise! My birthday is 16 days before her's and would always call me the "old lady" she will be missed but GOD has the final say even though I am still in disbelief! To Ronald you have a journey to go through but GOD will take you through and it will not always be easy! To the children and grandchildren the same apply to you keep your Dad uplifted! I can't be there but heart and my prayers will be. I love you all!

My love and condolences to Sue's family. I had not seen Sue in many years, but we were childhood friends. We were brought together by her aunt and my favorite teacher, Miss Reba Spell. I have many wonderful memories of time spent with Sue and the Spell family.
